It’s a funny thing to be writing this blog in September, when Jagger was born in May. This wee man is the most handsome little four-month-old man you’d ever see now.

Last month, I was called to Southland Hospital’s maternity ward for a different reason. In the room next to this one, I photographed a family who had lost their precious son and brother at 36 weeks gestation.

It was surreal, having laboured in one birth suite myself, photographed Jagger’s first breath in the next, and then one room over I held back tears while a family held their tiny, still son for a precious few hours.

Now I’ve seen the absolute joy and heartbreak childbirth can bring. Life is so precious.

But this isn’t a sad blog, just one to marvel at this little miracle. Jagger John Plato came into this world on May 11 at 11.42am, 8lb 5oz. Every little piece of him is perfect.

This little boy has been longed for, waited for, and loved so much since Lauren and Andy first found out he was growing.

Jagger is a rainbow baby, born after a loss. What an incredible privilege to be able to share this moment. The most amazing photos I’ve ever been asked to capture.
